Palm Beach Blooms - Dan Shaughnessy IV created Stainless Steel Dandelions w/ interactive technology – The project includes 6 large scale stainless dandelions over 15ft tall installed in West Palm Beach Downtown. These flowers are fabricated from 100% Marine Grade Stainless Steel w/ industrial rated lighting systems. Each flower is designed to withstand all the elements; wind, rain, salt as well as low to zero maintenance. One of the main requirements for this project was to design the flowers to withstand up to 200mph winds. With my engineering team, we were able to calculate the wind load specifications for each individual flower. These blooms were engineered to withstand Category 5 winds and all the elements that come with it. The installation for this project required a great deal of coordination and over 25 people on site. The Blooms roughly weigh over 1,200lbs and were lifted into place with a 100ton crane blind. While the sculptures hovered in place, the electrical team reversed wired over 250ft of data / power cables. The Palm Beach Blooms are programmed to have a variety of exciting light sequences. With help from Eos Lightmedia, we designed these light arrays to encourage interaction from the public. Using data and sensors in the space, we were able to have a wide range of possibilities. This enables the administrator to not only use the pre-programmed light arrays but also create new sequences for particular occasions and events.

Active Glass

Light is not just a vital part of our everyday lives, but a major source of inspiration when planning work spaces, homes and commercial buildings. It drives architects and designers to seek out innovative modes of expression. Now you can harness the LEDs embedded inside Glassiled to open up whole new dimensions for your creativity. The LEDs (Light-emitting diodes) – either monochrome or RGB (red, green, blue) – are powered via a super-efficient, transparent conductive layer. Vision is not obstructed and the glass retains its primary function: transparency. And then, at the flick of a switch, you can illuminate your medium and transform it any way you wish. No longer a mere construction material, glass is now a vehicle for your unique creative powers!

James Parker Sculpture

JAMES PARKER FIRST BEGAN MANIPULATING STONE QUITE EARLY IN LIFE. AT ONLY FOUR YEARS OF AGE, HE ASSISTED HIS FATHER IN REPAIRING GAPS IN THE DRYSTONE WALLS SURROUNDING THE FAMILY FARM IN GALLOWAY, SOUTH WEST SCOTLAND. THIS SIMPLE BONDING EXPERIENCE SPARKED AN INTEREST IN STONEWORK, WHICH WOULD EVENTUALLY TURN INTO BOTH PASSION AND PROFESSION. 2007 SAW THE CREATION OF HIS FIRST SCULPTURE IN SLATE, AND BY JUNE 2008 HIS FIRST PUBLIC EXHIBITION WAS UNDERWAY. SEVERAL EXHIBITIONS HAVE SINCE FOLLOWED, INCLUDING MULTIPLE ACCOLADES AND AWARD-WINNING YEARS AT THE RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW

Jason Krugman Studio

Jason Krugman attended Tufts University and studied Economics and Fine Arts. After graduating, Krugman struggled to imagine a career as a fine artist and instead focused on economics and later finance. He worked at Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch processing structured credit trades prior to the financial collapse. In early 2007, with no inkling of the impending calamity, Krugman returned to school to study technology and art. Inspired by the burgeoning use of electricity and code to create interactive art, he enrolled at the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU. Krugman learned about microcontrollers, soldering, digital fabrication and new materials. His thesis at ITP, a wind sensitive LED array, was blogged about by Kanye West which in turn got him his first commercial commission, making a larger, more portable version to show at several large music festivals. Krugman soon after began receiving inquiries to make permanent LED installations for buildings and people’s homes. Today, Krugman’s practice is still based around the design and execution of new types of LED artworks. He has developed a hand-soldered LED mesh, several cable systems, and a variety of custom printed circuit boards for LED artworks. He specializes in arranging electricity and lights in 3-dimensional space. His sculptures often use their physical structure to conduct electricity to the light sources. This eliminates most of the insulated wiring and connectors allowing thousands of lights to sit softly among minimal wire forms.
